The fifth and final entry in the historically successful "Twilight" franchise is the most self-aware and in some ways the most entertaining.The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 is not just a movie for Twihards. Ever since Twilight came out in 2008, billions of fans across the world have made vampires and werewolves a figment of their imagination. Truth be told, film critics have never really been big rooters of the film’s franchise; notwithstanding, it is this intangible connect with Twihards that makes the Twilight film series one of the most loved ones ever.
With the release of the fifth and the final installment of the Twilight series, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, an era has ended for the Twihards. Yes, a void has been created for the vampire and werewolves buffs, but the good news is that the series has got a fitting finale.
Continuing from where The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 ended, the second part sees Bella Cullen (Kristen Stewart) as a vampire. Her transformation is sure as shooting a reason to rejoice for Twihards since it was one of the most anticipated moments of the film’s franchise. The initial moments of the 116 minutes-long film capture Kristen Stewart’s red-eyed avatar and her introduction to the newly-possessed powers and skills.
Her husband Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) is glad with the fact that he and his wife are the ‘same temperature’ now. Who would have thought while watching the first four installments of the Twilight series that Jacob (Taylor Lautner) would be happy to see Bella and Edward together!
As witnessed in the previous part, the Cullen daughter Renesmee (Mackenzie Foy) has been imprinted on by Jacob (just to brush up your memory, imprinting is the involuntary mechanism by which Quileute shape-shifters find their soul-mates). The reaction of Bella to this imprinting is one of the most humorous scenes of the film. Things however don’t stay happy for too long as Irina, a member of the Denali coven, reports the birth of the half human-half vampire baby Renesmee to the Volturi who see the little one as a threat to the entire vampire race. All this leads to a mighty clash between the Cullens (and their mates) and the Volturi. Without giving away anything further, a delicious surprise awaits you!
Breaking Dawn Part 2 is not only full of thrills and action but also packs some laughter. Some witty quips, sarcasm, and dry humour, this film perhaps offers the most chuckles than any other Twilight film has.
The performance by the lead cast -- Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner -- is notable. There is a clear-cut improvement in all the three actors and they have come a long way since 2008. Peter Facinelli, Elizabeth Reaser, Ashley Greene, Jackson Rathbone, Kellan Lutz and Billy Burke will never be forgotten for the portrayal of their short yet pivotal roles throughout the Twilight series.
Director Bill Condon has done a fine job helming the last two installments of the franchise. It was certainly the correct decision to divide the Breaking Dawn into two parts or the end result could have been a hotchpotch. In keeping with the franchise’s history, the cinematography of Breaking Dawn Part 2 is grand! All the shots of the forests, the mystic mountains and the rivers are a treat to watch!
To sum it all, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 has given a well-deserved end to this epic saga. The conclusion and the credit cookie take you down memory lane and leave you nostalgic. The Twilight series will undeniably stay in the hearts of all the Twihards. Forever.
Bloodier, funnier and even more ridiculous, but the final chapter of this saga is better paced than the Potterthon.
