 Dulquer perfomance is superb.

Full review
Debutant Roopesh Peethamabran's 'Theevram' is an experiment in screenplay and scripting ,which seems to have gone in the wrong direction. The same movie that is very watchable and intense in the first half, takes a 'U' turn and travels in a direction that makes you feel whether its the same movie that you were watching up until then.

The problem lies in the fact that for a thriller, a second half and how the mystery ends of the script are unfolded in an interesting manner, is the key. But 'Theevram' takes its viewers patience and interest for granted here. 10 minutes in to second half, you probably have seen all that is going to happen already and that leaves you with a feeling of 'emptiness' from there on in.

These diametrically opposite 2 halves are interesting to observe because the first is intense, taut and keeps you much on hooks as a very watchable thriller. But the second one goes in a direction which is 'unbecoming' of a thriller. 

Dulquer Salmaan does decently on whatever has been given to him. The heroine is so-so. One who came as Dulquer's friends are ok. Srinivasan is competent as usual. Srinivasan's asst officer is good. 

Music is different and may fit the intense genre. Cinematography is so-so.

To sum it up, 'Theevram' tries to be true to its name, but falters where a thriller has to rise and fulfill. All in all, an experiment gone in the wrong direction.

Well, if you are someone who is eagerly waiting for a Vijay movie that is thrilling, entertaining and not too much over the top style, Thuppakki may well be the movie you were waiting for. Cliché Tamil movie formulas are there in this Murugados movie. But still the non typical Vijay and the kind of commitment of the plot makes this movie an engaging time pass fun.
The plot revolves around Jagdish an undercover DIA (Defense Intelligence Agency) agent who is on a hunt to find the head of a terrorist attack. His successful operation manages to fail the operation planned by the terrorists and this leads to a direct encounter
between the both. When Jagdish understands that “Sleeper Cells” (Terrorists who are waiting for order from the top) are being used in this operation, he also plans to get to the villain to finish him. If the head is finished, the sleeper cells wont get any orders to execute and a bulk or large part of the terrorist attacks can be stopped. That’s the logic of the movie and this particular theme is executed by Murugados with some commercial masala.
Basically the film works for its non typical Vijay style. In a film titled Thuppakki, the amount of fight is very less when compared to the kind of Vijay movies we have seen in the recent past. But the plot isn’t that boring because of some cooler mind games introduced in the script by Murugados. The only demerit I could find in the movie was the placing of songs. Three songs are there involving Kajal Agarwal and Vijay. The most annoying part of it is that the heroine doesn’t really have anything to do in the movie’s story. Jayaram’s character also disturbs the intense feel of the movie.
On screen, Vijay handles the role of Jagdish very elegantly. He was cool in dance, controlled in comedy and he did the most difficult part in a satisfying way; fighting against Vidyut Jamwal. Kajal Agarwal’s role was an absolute waste, but her performance was good. Vidyut Jamwal was dashing in his scenes, but an actor of his caliber could have been used more. Jayaram also did an unwanted small role as the senior officer of Jagdish. Sathyan did his part neatly as the SI.
In the making, Murugados have done his part fairly in direction. But when it comes to the script there are lots of portions that stand out as a disturbance as they are totally unwanted. Thankfully there aren’t any rhythmic punch dialogs to spoil the relevance of the plot. Muragados’s gesture to dedicate this movie to Indian Army deserves some applauds. In cinematography I couldn’t see a fully satisfying Santosh Sivan. Commercial plots really restrict awesome cinematographers. Sreekar Prasad’s edits are cool and the BGM is also engaging. Music didn’t really works for this time. Only Google Google remains in the head.
On the whole, Thuppakki is a satisfying entertainer for neutral and non typical super hit for Vijay fans. I am giving 3/5 for this A R Murugados film. If you are looking for a festival fun film Thuppakki wont disappoint you at all.

The Legend Yash Chopra left this world leaving a movie with intense feelings of love. Yes, JAB TAK HAI JAAN, indeed a YASH CHOPRA ROMANCE. A R Rahman, as usual, did wonder with music and background score. Cinematography (by Anil Mehta) and Choreography (by Vaibhavi Merchant) are at its peak. Screenplay (Aditya Chopra) could have been much tighter by avoiding some over-dramatic scenes and the movie is lagging at times. Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka sharma made the film great with their splendid performance. On the whole, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, is a dream world of romance. Those who love romantic movies, just go and experience it.

My boss, the film which stars the Janapriyanayakan Dileep in the lead role, neither falls in to the category of"Mayamohini", nor "Mummy and Me". The film has two lead characters with entirely different tastes and tells the story with an IT background. The director Jithu Joseph who has done "Mummy and me" previously has come up with a different story treated in a different manner.

Manu Varma (Dileep) is a young IT professional who does like the life in a foreign country. He used to talk about his intentions of migrating to a foreign country to his friends and dear ones. He was appointed as the assistant to Priya (Mamtha) in Mumbai. The boss contrary to Dileep, is a young women who was brought up in Australia and always dreams of leading a normal life here. And one must say that she is arrogant too. So, as one can expect some usual Boss – Subordinate fight between them. Unfortunately, some Visa Problems made her situations worse. She was forced to migrate to Australia. Under these circumstances she took some bold decisions. She asks Dileep whether he could act as her husband. Though shows some hesitations at first, he agrees to marry her. Both of them move to kerala, to meet Manu Varma's parents. But, contrary to her believes, she starts loving the people out there. Then there follows some usual comic situations and with some predictable twists and turnings, the story proceeds.



The main highlight of the movie is none another than the presence of Dileep. As a young IT professional, with a slight tint of humor he steels most part of show. Some of the situations don't suit to your logic, but you would love to watch it in most parts. Mamtha as the arrogant and tough Boss did justice to her given role. She looked convincing in the role. But, one need note that, this is far from the Mamtha that we have seen in Kadha Thudarunnu or Arike. The rest of the cast too needs some mention. Mukesh in an extended cameo role as the boss of Mamtha and Sai Kumar as Dileep's father too excels.

Jithu Joseph, who is the maker of Mummy and Me, has dealt with a much softer theme this time. Though this one is not like his previous flick, it has its own moments. What makes us happy by seeing this film is that, unlike Dileep's previous films this movie has a decent story to tell. The director himself has written the script and except some lagging in the second half, it can be considered as a decent film. Thus Jithu Joseph needs special applause. The songs by Seijo John and M.Jayachandran are good to hear, so is the cinematograph by Anil Nair. The special addition of the song "Enthinennariyilla" was nice. Editor V.Sajan could have trimmed the content at least in some portions.

"My Boss" definitely offers some hilarious moments and keeps you engaged throughout. On the whole, this movie tells a story that we have heard somewhere. But the movie offers some excellent performances by Dileep & co, and a neat job by the director.

M Mohanan’s 916 is a movie that fails to take off to a new level of storytelling. The makers can claim that the story is relevant in the new society and all. But the simplicity or rather silliness and the repeated theme make this movie not so special. We have seen many movies based on divorce and how it influences the children in a family. Mohanan tries to repeat the same theme on the current society but unfortunately he is stuck on the old generation.
The plot is basically about a dad and his daughter. Doctor Harikrishnan and his daughter Meera. As Meera grows Harikrishnan’s worries also increases as a normal dad. He spots her with a boy and his tension increases and it results in a situation where he slaps and she leaves her father. When he tries to find her, he understands that she is with her mother and then the movie revolves around this family’s emotional backdrop.



The basic problem with the movie is that its level of social commitment is almost in a preaching level which will be a really boring experience when compared to the level of narration of modern day movies. The theme doesn’t have any freshness and the only plus I found in the movie was the ease in performance of the actors especially Anoop Menon. Otherwise it’s a cliché melodramatic Malayalam movie.
On screen, Anoop Menon again impresses us with his Calicut slang and the ease with which he naturally emotes is simply superb. Malavika had some hiccups in the emotional scenes. But in the combination scenes with Anoop Menon she was really impressive as a new comer. KPSC Lalitha’s character just vanished into air after a few minutes. Asif Ali’s role actually has no big importance compared to his star value and a younger face would have been more apt for the role. After a while Asif is also missing from the film. Monica was good in both shades. Mukesh and Meera Vasudev did their part impressively along with Nandu. 
In the making, I think in the practical scenes Mohanan had his grip over the script and with Anoop Menon portraying the role neatly the movie went smoothly in those areas. First time I felt Asif as impressive in dialog delivery in this movie. The portion were he describes about his mother was really good especially because of the positive energy he brought on screen. The flirting boy in Meera’s school was an annoying addition. Back to back songs were also quite disturbing. The melodrama surrounding the divorce of the main protagonists was also quite stretched out and movie totally leaves its pleasant atmosphere. Faisal Ali’s cinematography was nice. But still he couldn’t bring that charm of Ordinary. M Jayachandran’s music was good. 
Overall, 916 is a cliché Melodramatic family drama which offers very few for the audience to rethink. Preaching movies are just not what the doctor ordered. I am giving 2/5 for this one from Mr Mohanan. Watch it only for Anoop Menon.

Shutter is an upcoming film directed by Joy Mathew, starring Apoorvaragam fame Vinay Forrt, Lal, Sreenivasan, Sajitha Madathil , 22 Female Kottayam fame Riaa Saira & Nisha Joseph.

 Shutter, which stars Srinivasan, Lal, Riya Saira and Vinay Forrt, is set in Calicut. A special feature of the film is that, it has a host of theatre actors playing a prominent part. Renganaath Ravee has done the sound design while Hari Nair has handled the cinematography. 
The story revolves around the lives of three characters and takes place behind the shutters of a shop. "The jury is an international one and I feel honoured that it has been selected for the competition section," says Joy. The only other film which has been selected from Malayalam is T V Chandran's Bhoomiyude Avakashikal. Shutter will release in theatres in Kerala soon. "We are considering sending the film to other film festivals too," says Joy.
